C J first appeared on stage at the age of 5, singing in a dance recital. He’s been trying to fit in ever since. When he got his big break performing the role of Dr. Van Helsing in I was a Teenage Dracula, he was hooked and continued performing as a young actor in his native Louisville, KY. Prior to joining The Speakeasy, Mr. Smith was most recently seen at the Thrillpeddlers in the TBA nominated Shocktoberfest 17: Pyramid of Freaks and the world premier of The Untamed Stage there. During his four decades living in San Francisco, Mr. Smith has performed at the original Eureka Theatre, the Magic Theatre, the Illustrated Stage Co., and was a member of the One Act Theatre Co. He has toured the provinces from Sunnyvale to Vallejo and Walnut Creek, performing in roles by Moliere to Coward. More recently he was seen in the role of George Arronow in Glenngary Glen Ross, The Exonerated and 12 Angry Men at Teatro Vagon, and Dangerous Corner at SF City Theatre Co. Mr. Smith attended the theatre arts program at Webster College and has studied locally with Jean Shelton, Leonard Pitt, and Richard Seyd, among others. He even performed a scene for the legendary Stella Adler. She was very judgy, but approved of his choice of Ibsen.
